John Jalique - Founder/CEO
USA

Born in Pasig Manila, Philippines John migrated to the United States when he was only 5 years old.  Growing up in California he was exposed to a diversity of cultures but was slowly losing his sense of identity as a Filipino.  When John was 17 he joined the United States Army.  He then worked for the United States Postal Service as a Customer Service and Shift Supervisor.

In January of 2009, John and His wife Myra had the vision to sponsor children in the Philippines and Scholars4Jesus was formed.   His vision was to give the poor and orphaned children of the Philippines not only the hope of going to school but an opportunity to obtain the best level of education through their proven efforts.  The goal of Scholars4jesus is to give these children the ability to change the future of their families and the nation.

Myra Jalique - Founder/COO
USA

Myra Was born in Olongapo Philippines as the oldest of 6 children.  She was only 9 years old when her father passed away and her life was changed forever.   She was moved from private school to public school and her mom worked all day selling cooked meals to support the family.  In her youth Myra competed in singing contests, her talent got her on T.V, toured with many of the biggest icons of today and even earned her a recording contract.  Singing was her talent but it was education that she strived for.  This strong desire gained her full scholarships into the University of the Philippines Diliman.  The most prestigious University in the Philippines bar none.

It appeared she was headed for a bright future when her mother suffered from a stroke.  To keep her brothers in school Myra decided to drop out of School and take a job offer to sing in a band  that would tour throughout asia.  The money she earned would pay for her mothers medication and keep her sibling in school.  It was during this time that Myra fell in love with a Marine that promised her a new life and would take care of her family.  This was the first of many lies that men would give her leading to a tragic life of pain and suffering with divorce after divorce.

It appeared there was no hope left in her life until she married John and together they gave their lives to the Lord.  Now Myra is fulfilling her purpose in life by singing for the Lord and providing scholarships to the poor and needy as she had been sponsored in her youth.

God moved me in a special way that on February 13, 1980,

I decided to accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior”.

“Ate Vi” as she is fondly called was born on February 24, in Quezon City, Phils. She is the eldest of the five siblings of Magno (deceased) and Claudia Villanueva. In 1968, the family settled in Salitran, Dasmarinas, Cavite.

It was a blessing when Pastor Mendieta started a bible study in their neighborhood and her family attended and became actively involved. Her mom, who used to be a Catechism teacher became a believer and follower of Christ even her brothers and sister. The fellowship grew and their family became the pioneer of the church, the Range Hills Baptist Mission Church. She attended camps, trainings, seminars and God used her to minister to kids, youth and adults.

In December 2000, God allowed her to go to US and got married in February, 2001 to a God-fearing and a loving husband Eleazar T. Castillo, blessed with son, Christian whom they loved dearly. The family became active in Bay Area Bible Fellowship (BABF), attending Bridges Community ChurchCathedral of Faith. God paved the way to meet John and Myra in their Friday bible study - Servants Journey. She is now part of the Scholars4Jesus Ministry that help and assist impoverished kids who wanted to go to school…. life is meant for ministry.

According to her, there were three important decisions in her life and she is thankful that God led her along the way, choosing the course, job and life partner.

 Dolores Sangco-Villaflor - Scholarship Director
USA

Maria Dolores Puno Sangco-Villaflor was born on March 26th, in Bulacan, Philippines.  Her parents are Paulina Gatbunton Puno (deceased) and Dominador Bulaon Sangco. Her whole family resides in San Juan , San Ildefonso, Bulacan, Philippines. Being the oldest among 9 siblings, she spent her childhood in poverty. But this did not deter her from her chosen path of achieving her life's goals.

Dolores commenced primary education at San Ildefonso North Central Elementary School. She was an honor student known for her dedicated learning, modest manners, supreme honesty and great respect for teachers.

Her parents, despite of poverty, somehow managed to send her to High School through Scholarship from Rotary Club of Malolos. Dolores studied College at Central Luzon State University from 1977 to 1981. She applied herself to learning with full discipline, diligence and perseverance - in the most arduous of circumstances. Her meritorious performance in High School rewarded her College Scholarships which were a welcome relief in her family’s  impoverished financial condition.

On 7th of April in 1981, she got married to Reynaldo A. Estolano, had a son, Timothy Sam Estolano on 28th of June, 1983. It was the most joyous day in the history of her life to finally see the blessing from above. Her loving husband went to rest to be with the Lord in May of 1991. He left a son and a legacy which was the relationship that they both made with the Lord.

She became a born again Christian thru her late husband and because of his faith she became what she is right now when it comes to her faith in God. Her late husband was a living example to her on what a servant of God should be.

Dolores and her son came in the US in 1991 after her husband’s passing. She was so grateful that her late husband’s family took them in temporarily while she was trying to make a living for her and her son. It wasn’t an easy life for her, being a mom and a dad to her son.

Dolores re-married after 7 years to her ex-husband Nathan Villaflor. Life taught her so many things. She didn’t give up to any hardship at all. She just cling on to God’s promises in her life.  She continued attending Bible Studies as her source of encouragement as she matured in the knowledge of the Lord.

In 23rd of August 2008, SERVANTS’ JOURNEY was born. It was through the collaboration of the 3 Marias .. Maria Dolores, Maria Vilma and Maria Filani that gave birth to this ministry.  A group of Christians from different Christian churches that meet every Friday to have fellowship, and learn more about God’s Word. Since that day on until the present, Dolores’s house is open every Friday night to all members and non-members of Servants’ Journey that needs feeding and encouragement for their spiritual growth. It is through Servants’ Journey that God pave a way to all members to meet MYRA and JOHN JALIQUE, the founders of SCHOLARS4JESUS.

Like many other Christians that grew from poverty, Dolores’s goal is for her family in the Philippines to not experience what she’d been through.  Her dream is to someday help her family out of poverty and eventually help others too. That dream came true through Scholars4Jesus. God gave her the desires of her heart. Dolores is now serving God through these 2 ministries, Servants’ Journey and Scholars4Jesus. If you want to know more about her, you can email her at cdhoyee2@gmail.com or you can access her through http://www.facebook.com/cdhoyee2
